I should be able to answer most of your questions... There are four events.
* Hunter Decision Making - presented with questions about hunting situations of all sorts, and you must rank the answers from best to worst.
* Hunter Skills & Safety - there is compass work and many other questions about hunting and the skills of hunting.
* Wildlife Identification - presented with parts of many Texas game animals, you must identify the animal with as much detail as possible, including sex if that is possible.
* Hunting Live Fire - this is the only one where shooting is involved. There are very few limitations. The point is that you would participate with the same firearm (or bow) that you would hunt with. Distances are just as in hunting, completely unknown, anywhere from 0 to 100 yards away. You shoot a series of targets with Muzzleloading Rifle and Smallbore Rifle on day one and a series of targets with a bow and shotgun on day two. You must participate in all four sections to qualify for the final award.
All of this is described in at least a little more detail in the Shoot Announcement. You might check there as well if there are any limitations on the firearms or bow.
